Which printing machines require corona treatment?

Only printing machines that print on low surface energy and non-absorbent substrates will typically be equipped with a corona treatment device:

1. Flexographic presses (Flexo Press)

Application: Food packaging bags (such as potato chip bags, beverage labels), courier bags, hygiene product packaging, etc.

Substrate: PE, PP, PET films, aluminum-coated films, non-woven fabrics, etc. with low surface energy.

Feature: The corona device is usually integrated after the unwinding unit and processes the material in real time online (while unwinding, it performs corona treatment), ensuring that the surface energy is in the optimal state during printing.

2. Gravure presses (Gravure Press)

Application: High-end soft packaging (such as cigarette boxes, cosmetic bottle labels, pharmaceutical aluminum-plastic packaging), plastic wallpaper, etc.

Substrate: Similar to flexographic presses, mainly low surface energy films, but with higher requirements for surface energy uniformity (due to the fine mesh holes of gravure printing, the ink must be fully filled).

Feature: The corona treatment accuracy is strict, avoiding excessive treatment that causes material brittleness or deformation.

3. Industrial digital presses (Industrial Digital Press)

Application: Short-run packaging printing, personalized label printing (such as e-commerce customized express labels, cosmetic sample labels).

Substrate: Unprocessed plastic films, synthetic paper (such as PP synthetic paper), etc.

Feature: Some high-end models can integrate an online corona module to achieve "corona treatment printing" integration; in small-batch scenarios, "offline corona equipment" may also be used for pre-treatment before printing.

4. Some screen printing presses (Screen Printing Press)

Application: Electronic panels (such as mobile phone buttons), acrylic signs, plastic toys printing, etc.

Substrate: Acrylic, PC, PVC, etc. with low surface energy.

Feature: Mostly offline pre-treatment (the substrate is processed by the corona machine separately and then sent to screen printing), because the substrate size and shape of screen printing are more flexible, and online processing is difficult.
